Description

I'm creating this group to unite California Aestheticians. This is a great opportunity for us to work together as a group to better our industry. Feel free to add to the discussion board. Our board Rules and Regulations do need to be updated. There's always a better chance when we work as a group so I hope you join and share with us all. If you have any ideas and suggestions, We'd love to hear it.

I am taking a Medical Aesthetician cert program and we're using Lucrece products. I was just wondering if anyone has used these products and if so, what do you think of them?

Merry Christmas Everyone! I hope everyone is on board for nudging SB for some positive changes in 2011 I got word yesterday that one hair dresser in a busy salon was singled out "because she didn't look old enough to be an esthetician". Most got just a look over and everything of hers was gone through. I would think if it's a matter of consumer protection everyone would get the same treatment. I look forward to meeting you all at the next SB meeting!
Yeah!!! Linda Bertaut it's nice to see you on here.....WELCOME!!!

We're a medical spa with a great doctor on staff ad 2 amazing nurses as well as Aesthetics team, massage team and a nail care team. We just had our annual Osha class and they told us again that we need red bins in the skin care rooms as well as the nail care room since people can bleed with a nipper. I told them that I had to remove it because Sate board says they supersede Osha. That's unbelievable to me.I know this is something that people don't want to talk about because we'd rather hide under a rock and act like it doesn't exist but let's fix the problem rather than hide it. People bleed. We all know that when you cleanse someone's skin or do manual extractions there's always a chance of bleeding. Especially someone cystc or someone taking blood thinners. Why should we not be protected. We wear gloves but the tissue should not go into a regular trash can. It's not fair to someone that can open the trash bag for whatever reason. So I asked Osha to call State Board and I'm hoping they do to make this change. My thoughts are that if I can't even find out what the discussion agenda is for our State Board meeting then I feel that they're avoiding us? They should protect the Aesthetician as well as the consumer. Does anyone know someone in State Board of California?

Hi Tina, I can't imagine the cosmo board being a higher power than OSHA. Even in the Bloodborne Pathogens class it is taught that anything disposable & contaminated with blood has to be put into a red "container" whether it is a plastic bag or sharps type container. In our practice if there were no blood from extractions etc there is always a chance of a nose bleed or scratching oneself with a fingernail or bleeding from a bad fall. Where are those blood soaked paper towels, tissues etc supposed to go? It will never happen but State board employees all the way from the top down to inspectors should have to go through the same training as those they control. I will continue to try to find out the discussion agenda but for now all I get is "just show up and present your proposal and the board will consider it" . Thank you for asking OSHA to call SB.

yes, Maybe Osha needs to contact State Board.
They should not tell us that there should be no blood what so ever because it's unrealistic. That's the answer we got from the inspector.
Anyhow, we're putting the bins back since Osha requires it. And I just think it's common sense regardless of which regulation board requires it. Blood happens. Keep in touch.

Hi Everyone,
I'm really happy to see California Aestheticians grow. Although it's a slow growth.. I think it's a great first step for us all. It would be great to hear what new changes you'd like to see in our industry. Feel free to post your thoughts and wishing you all the best:)

Hi
I am a newly licensed Esthetician and I am glad that we have a California Esthetician group. I think it is very important that we are aware of everything that is going on with the California State board.

Sign me up! I plan on attending at least one meeting next year. The rules and regs are so antiquated it's time we take a stand before those that don't know what we do bring us down.

Hi Robbie, Spread the word so we can gather enough people to make a difference. I'll keep you in the loop. Sadly I've called state board several times so they could give me the meeting agenda for this past October and apparently they don't like to share this info. I was wondering who they were having the meeting for since the Agenda online was empty. Maybe someone can fill me in?
Thanks and hope to meet you one day:)

Hi Cheryl,
I felt we needed to come together and figure discuss our concerns with our industry. I'm going to try to write it on my discussion Board and hopefully you can see it and respond. Stay tuned. Tina

Hello California Aestheticians.
Will anyone be attending the Board meeting in Sacramento, October 25th and 26th?
I'm trying to figure out what the Agenda is for that day but it isn't listed. Please let the group know if you find out topics of discussion.
Thank you:)

Hi Tina,

You know this might be a great thing for an event! You can create an event under the applications tab at the top of this page. You can then invite ppl, share via email, social media, etc. :)

Let me know if this helps!

I'd love to be a part of some positive change for California aestheticians. I'm new to the ap community, but am so happy this forum is available to us.

Hi Rachel, I'm glad this forum is available as well. It just won't do us any good if we don't join together and be more involved in Rules and regs. Spread the word... we have 3 weeks and hopefully we can make a difference. What are your concerns with the board?

RobertTH RobertTH on Saturday, 02 October 2010 17:20

Hi Tina-I too have concerns about manicurists and cosmetologists performing facials, peels and waxing without the same required training as estheticians. Regarding CEU's, I think it's a good idea in theory, particularly regarding peels; however, I also have some hesitations / concerns about state board designing and enforcing such a program.

I agree with you Rachel. I'm late on this topic, how did things turn out at the meeting?
